So, on my drive over to my parents’ house to make jam this week, I was singing along to the radio and suddenly realized Jammin’ by Bob Marley was playing. Coincidence? I think not. Well, it’s either that or the fact that it’s summertime and that song plays on the radio all the time. In any event, who knew making jam could be so much fun? I remember being a kid and watching my mom make it, and I’ve helped out with a batch or two over the years, but this year was the first time I actually rolled up my sleeves and pitched in from start to finish. The smell of strawberries and sugar cooking on the stove, well it just can’t be beat. Such a fun afternoon with my mom. I couldn’t help but take a quick snapshot with Instagram, which I am currently loving (along with the rest of the world, it seems). Such a fun way to document things quickly, because no one likes burnt jam, that’s for sure!

Considering that it’s been feeling like it’s in the ’40s here this week with the temperatures, it’s hard to believe that this is the first official weekend of summer, but that it is! I was photographing up a storm for a class this week, and as is usually the case, I brought home the prettiest foods at the store, not necessarily the foods I eat on a regular basis. So, with that being said, it looks like radishes are on the menu for this first weekend of summer…not sure I’ve ever really even eaten a radish, but my, my they are pretty to look at.
I just love basil. Love it, love it, love it. Perfect on pasta, pizza, you name it, it can do no wrong in my book. Even though I use it year-round, the scent of it always makes me think of summer and lazy days. I’ve been seeing lots of cocktail recipes lately with basil in them, and although I can’t seem to get enough of this little herb, for some reason the idea of combining the two just gives me some pause. Basil and strawberries seem to be a good go-to though, so I’m thinking I might have to attempt a strawberry-basil drink this weekend. Maybe for Father’s Day on Sunday? Nah, my dad’s more of a beer and pepperoni stick kind of guy, so I think he might tell me I’m off my rocker. Looking forward to a little get-together with the family this weekend to celebrate one very special dad — as fun, supportive and kind as can be, and a true kid-at-heart. I saw this pretzel dog recipe this week (yes, that’s right, pretzels wrapped around hot dogs!!) and am thinking they might just be perfect…
